Tutoring
When can new students start?
New tutoring students start from May 2027. Enquiries are open now, and places are offered after a consultation, an interview and a placement test.
Which courses do you teach?
IB Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches at HL and SL, IB MYP Mathematics, IGCSE Mathematics (Extended and Additional), the UWC Mathematics programme, and AP Calculus AB and BC.
Where do lessons take place?
At the student’s home. The areas I can visit depend on my weekly route, so I confirm this during the consultation. If a visit isn’t possible, lessons run on Zoom.
How long and how often are lessons?
Each lesson is 2 hours, at least once a week on a fixed schedule. Extra lessons can be added before tests; late-evening sessions before tests are held on Zoom.
How does billing work?
Monthly, in advance. Around the last day of each month I send an invoice for the next month’s scheduled lessons. You can pay by credit card or bank transfer. Invoices are issued by ALEX-MLC PTE. LTD.
What if we need to cancel a lesson?
With 24 hours’ notice or more, the lesson is rescheduled at no charge. With less than 24 hours’ notice, the full lesson fee applies. If your child is ill or has an unavoidable emergency, or if I cancel, the lesson is rescheduled at no charge.
What happens to lessons that don’t take place?
They carry over to the following month, so you never pay twice for the same lesson.
How will we know how our child is doing?
I write feedback after every lesson and send parents a report each month on progress, strengths and what to work on next.
What is the two-month evaluation period?
The first two months are for assessing the student’s learning type, habits and ability, and for starting to rebuild how they study. At the end of the second month I decide whether lessons continue. If different methods still bring no breakthrough, or the fit isn’t right, I tell you openly and we stop, so neither side wastes time or money.
Do you help with subjects other than maths?
I don’t teach other subjects, but IB students receive topic-sorted past papers for their other IB subjects, and the study methods I teach apply to every subject.
Admissions consulting
Should my child take IB Math AA or AI?
AA suits students who enjoy algebra and proof, and those aiming for mathematics, engineering, physics, economics or computer science, where many competitive courses prefer or require AA HL. AI suits students more interested in statistics and modelling. Check the requirements of each target course before choosing.
When should we start admissions planning?
Ideally before IB subject choices are made, usually in Grade 10, because subject choices decide which courses a student can apply for. Starting in Grade 11 still leaves time to plan tests, activities and applications.
Which countries do you advise on?
The UK, the US, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea.
How do the diagnostic and the packages fit together?
The IB Pathway Diagnostic (S$500) is a single 90-minute consultation with a 1–2 page summary report. For more support there are three packages: Subject & Major Strategy (Grades 10–11), Annual Mentoring (Grades 10–11) and Application Strategy (Grade 12). Their fees are discussed after a consultation, and instalment payment is available.
Do you write essays or guarantee admission?
No. I give direction and feedback on the student’s own writing, and a university list shows likelihood, not a promise of admission.
Do you work with my child’s school counsellor?
My advice is designed to work alongside the school’s university counsellor. I don’t replace the counsellor’s official role, such as recommendation letters, predicted grades and school documents.
